Eko

Eko

Eko,

Home of Excellence.

From the creeks of Apapa,

To the waters of Badagry.

From the struggles of the Mainland,

To the affluence of the Island.

Eko,

Such a diva.

The world revolves around her,

The world is at her feet.

Eko,

Where people keep up with the Joneses.

Coats are not cut according to size,

But according to the neighbour’s.

Eko,

Where the patient dog gets nothing.

Where being the early bird,

Is sometimes not enough.

Eko,

Where fame begets fame,

Power begets power,

Wealth begets wealth,

Prestige begets prestige.

Everyone pulling their strings.

Eko,

Like a prostitute,

She spreads her legs for all and sundry.

Pay the price,

Enjoy the ride.

Eko,

She entices you,

With the good things of life.

Makes you believe,

Believe you can have it all.

The reality however, is daunting.

Eko,

Every man for himself.

Mothers denied by their own children,

Siblings betrayed by their own blood.

Eko,

Where many have been deceived,

Where their dreams have caused them harm,

Where their aspirations was their undoing.

Still, they dream,

Still, they aspire.

Eko,

Stories of her are scary,

Still,

Everyone wants her.

Like a bad habit,

She is hard to forget.

Eko,

How we love you.

Despite your flaws,

Despite your misgivings,

We crave you,

We live for you,

We are proud of you.

Overdosed

Overdosed

Overdosed,

Still not enough,

But not for you.

Smothered,

What you said.

Dumbfounded,

How I felt.

Misleading,

Words from your friends.

Emasculating,

Thoughts in my head.

Anguish,

When you left.

Distraught,

When you moved on.

Ridicule,

From your friends.

Pity,

From mine.

Confused,

When you came back.

Retribution,

What I sought.

Clarifying,

Things you stated.

Endless,

Your complaints.

Vague,

His love for you.

Excessive,

My love for you.

Impossible,

What you are.

Caring,

My weakness.

Take you back,

Butter you up,

Dump you at the altar,

What I plan to do.

Wicked,

Yes I know.

Fulfilled,

How I’ll feel.

Remorse,

What I won’t feel.

Hurt, pain and shame,

What you’ll feel.

Last laugh,

What I’ll get.

Tears,

What you’ll get.

Girl I Used To Know

Girl I Used To KnowGood Morning folks, I am sure the day has been good so far. In case you got beat by the rain, sorry. Happy Birthday Omzz!

This post was sent to me by a friend of mine, you can follow her @AcousticHannah. I hope you enjoy it.

Among the cluttered archives of my pen
Lie the memories of a girl whom I once called “me”
Her eyes alight
Luminous as the sun
But her figure grows dim
With every breath that’s drawn
The inquisitive mind’s questions lie eternally subdued
Her heart’s inner strength quietly accrued
The insistent cruelty claims her will as it’s prize
embedding it’s malice into her deepest confines
Riddled with conflict, despair, and her newfound host
Her identity peals
Her former self now a ghost.
As I cling to the memories
of her once innocent form
A searing pain jets through me
And I mourn
This girl pure as rain
Is now all but gone
Her resolve, self-assurance
WIll, and life all won
Won by a cruelty too often bestowed on the meek
Teased and berated, abused by her critique
Judgement weighs on her slight frame
The weight of the world, she is to blame
She loves on in spite of her impending demise
Rendered by those she loves deeply
With her once bright eyes
The eyes reflect this battered soul
The eyes that grow dim as she will never be whole
Damaged and beaten by life itself
The irony is uncanny
The toll it takes is real
The shell keeps going
A pariah she is now
The inverse of a corpse
She is the walking dead
Why her heart continues beating
or blood flows through her veins
Why she draws in breath
Or why she even has a name…
Is a questioning plea
For someone to reclaim
This girl I once called “me”
